Eicher Pro 8031 XM 8x4 Mining Tipper: VECV's Heavy-Duty Hauler

The worst recession in the commercial vehicles segment is way behind us. Almost every segments in the CV industry are showing great momentum, including the worst hit construction and mining category. VECV (Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles), one of the new entrant in the segment, is making its presence felt by enhancing its product portfolio by a series of tippers in the Pro 6000 and 8000 range. In particular, the 330 hp Eicher Pro 8031 XM 8x4 is a real heavy-duty tipper perfectly suited for tough and demanding applications in construction and soft mining. The truck is well-equipped to take on the other strong players in the mining category.


Quite recently, VECV presented their heavy-duty tippers at Excon 2015 International Construction Equipment and Technology Trade Fair, Bengaluru. Speaking at the event, Mr Vinod Aggarwal, CEO, VE Commercial Vehicle, said, "As we move forward, a lot more growth is expected to come from demand from two sectors- Mining and Construction. Already, the coal mining industry is showing handsome growth with significant focus of the Government to increase domestic production of coal. Furthermore, with a number of infrastructure projects under implementation and the Government's actions to remove hurdles; construction segment also is likely to show good growth in the next 2-3 years." Clearly, VECV is eyeing robust growth in the mining and construction segment, and aims a fair share in the recent expansion of products involving numerous players.

The 8031 XM 8x4, with a 31-tonne GVW capacity, has been designed, developed and tested by Volvo Group. Eicher says that the heavy hauler has been designed for a variety of mining applications and operating conditions, overburden or coal transportation suitable for both flat roads or gradients and long leads or short leads. Offered in scoop/ rock body and box body options, the heavy hauler stands a sturdy chassis with high strength rolled form wide and stable frame. It boasts advanced telematics and a modern cabin. Moreover, the multi-axle truck is compliant to all twenty safety features as recommended by Directorate General of mines safety, through standard and optional fitments.
The truck is powered by VEDX8 7.7-litre, inline 6-cylinder, Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDi) diesel engine with four valves per cylinder. The engine develops 330 hp of max power and 1200 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 9-speed Direct Drive manual gearbox with oil cooler and a single-plate, power assisted clutch. The BS III compliant truck's maximum speed is limited to 85 kmph, while its gradeability capability is 41 percent. Its turning radius is 9,200 mm, and ground clearance is 288 mm.

VECV says that the engine delivers excellent fuel efficiency at high torque and features latest engine management system.  In addition, Eicher is offering latest features like cruise control, driver info display, seat belts, tiltable steering wheel, adjustable driver seat, fuel coaching, exhaust brakes as auxiliary brake, and other connected services like fuel management, uptime services and fleet management. The rugged 8031 XM also gets a four additional lamps mounted on the roof, along with mining and cross-ply tyres.

Operating since 2008, the 50:50 JV between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited has a strong product portfolio in every truck segments with high investments in local assembly and class-defining technologies.
