2017 Maruti Suzuki Ignis - Auto Expo Live

One of the most exciting and funky-looking small car to come to the 2016 Auto Expo, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Ignis has received an Indian debut at the show. The Ignis will reach our showrooms by the festive season of Diwali this year.

This tiny crossover was revealed to world at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show last October, and is based on the lightweight Suzuki IK-4 concept. Measuring 3,700 mm long, 1,660 mm wide and 1,595 mm high, the Ignis is a whole size smaller than the Ford Ecosport, but a step bigger than the muscular Renault Kwid. It will definitely be a great competitor for the newly launched Mahindra KUV 100 as well.

What makes this car so memorable is its shape and design - those oval-shaped headlight units up front, the flared wheel arches along with that retro rear that has been designed to look quirky, like some of those JDM-spec rear-engined Suzuki cars. The cabin space is ridiculously high considering its tiny shape, and there seems plenty of ground clearance as well.

Maruti Suzuki is likely to offer the familiar 1.2-litre K-series petrol and the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel units in the Indian-spec Ignis range. It is to be noted that the JDM-spec Ignis that went on sale last month is powered by 1.2-liter DualJet petrol engine along with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology and is a CVT gearbox.

The Ignis will be locally manufactured at the Maruti's Manesar plant.
