Honda has officially revealed the all-new, fifth-generation Honda CR-V in Detroit, USA, ahead of its scheduled public debut at Los Angeles Auto Show next month. Being the company's second bestseller in the US market, the new CR-V will go on sale by the end of this year. Expect the car to reach Indian shores by the later half of next year.
The 2017 CR-V (Compact Recreational Vehicle) appears to be a well-refined product from Honda, both in terms of styling and equipment levels. Although the overall silhouette of the out-going CR-V is retained, the new design adds more value to the car's image, also making it more contemporary on par with the 2017 Honda Civic sedan. The new elements include bolder grille that features first-ever automatic shutter grille system to control aero drag (I wonder what the need in CR-V after all?!), sharper-looking headlamps with LED DRLs, longer hood, and muscular fender treatment. Over the rear, completely redesigned profile is a bit odd, but equally butch as well.

There is a great deal of refinement on the inside as well. The cabin is now more spacious, with best-in-class legroom, thanks to a stretched chassis that has grown by 50.8 mm in overall length. The dashboard layout is decent, although it is the center-mounted 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display that brightens the place. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for smartphone connectivity. The rear hinge-door is now hands-free, operated by a couple of sensors and a button.

Forget everything. The major talking point of the new CR-V is its turbo-charged engine - a powerful 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit from the Civic line-up (US-spec) that produces a max output of 190 hp and 179 lb-ft torque. The entry-level variant will continue to feature 2.4-litre i-VTEC unit making up to 184 hp and 180 lb-ft of peak torque. A CVT gearbox is standard, while there is an all-wheel drive option as well. However, we have wait and see if the company brings the turbo unit into the Indian-spec CR-V, which as per reports, will undergo localisation up to 65 percent.

Some of the fancy technologies in the US-spec Honda CR-V includes the 'Sensing suite' - a package consisting of collision-mitigation braking (forward impact and pedestrian sensing), road and lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control - along with Blind Spot Information (BSI) and Auto High Beam headlights.
