Ashok Leyland Guru Next-Generation Light Truck Is Ready - Tech Specs, Review

Ashok Leyland Guru truck

Powered by new 'H' series 3-cylinder engine with UPCRS technology.

Ashok Leyland will soon commence deliveries of its 'Guru' range of ICV (Intermediate Commercial Vehicle) to its customers nation-wide. The next-generation light truck is already into production, and the first vehicle has been delivered to Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) of Golden Temple in Punjab quite recently. The Guru is also the first ICV offering after the Nissan-Ashok Leyland split.

The Guru is a modern hauler designed for distribution and medium-distance operations in the 5-10 tonne segment. Based on prevailing consumer trends, the company has given simultaneous importance to maximum volumetric capacity and fuel-efficiency, making the new truck an all-rounder in terms of mileage, operational costs, and payload capacity. Developed on the bigger Boss truck platform, the Guru will be positioned alongside the Partner and Ecomet LCVs that are already faring in the ICV segment.

Ashok Leyland has superbly equipped this new truck with essential technologies. To start with, the downsized 3-cylinder 'H' series diesel engine with Unit Pump Common Rail System (UPCRS) technology is said to be the 'most-efficient' in the segment, with optimum power and speed delivery. The engine features an easy-to-maintain fuel injection pump that enhances fuel efficiency. It is mated to a 5-speed dual-synchromesh gearbox with heavy-duty clutch with pre-dampner and clutch-booster to reduce the pedal effort.

Ashok Leyland Guru's styling is distinctive with LED day-time running lights
Next on the list is the ABS braking system with full-air, dual-line S-cam brakes in all four wheels. The Guru also features all-aluminium wheels (segment first) along with optional aluminum load body fitments. The axle setup includes 'I' section reverse elliot up front and fully-floating single reduction hypoid over the rear, while the suspension features semi-elliptical leaf springs on both. The corrosion-resistant aluminized fuel tank comes with anti-theft pad lock provision.

Ashok Leyland Guru: Modern and spacious cabin features adjustable steering wheel and music system
The exterior design of the Guru truck is worth-mentioning. The styling is way modern and contemporary, thanks to its elegant plastic elements below the windshield and cab window areas and a slim upper grille. The sleek headlamps and tail lamps with integrated LED day-time running lights is again segment-first. The modern, suspended cabin is also interesting, with simple 2-spoke steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustments, a music system, and better driving view. The short gear lever throw is easy to operate, while the utility space is great including a provision for the driver to sleep comfortably.

Ashok Leyland says that the Guru has undergone extensive in-house and on-road testing to ensure maximum reliability. The company also offers its state-of-the-art fleet management system that integrates vehicle runtime and business operations to the ease of operators. The Guru LCV will primarily take on Tata 407 and Ultra 614 (Narrow Cab), along with Eicher 10.55 E2 Plus and Eicher Pro 1049 range.
