Tork T6X: India's First Electric Bike Launched @ INR 1.25 Lakhs

Tork T6X India's first ebike

Battery-powered motorcycles in India doesn't necessary have to be puny scooters, although that is all we have seen so far. But things are gonna change as Pune-based start-up Tork Motorcycles have come up with something that is only one-of-its-kind in our bikes market - a muscular all-electric motorcycle 'T6X' that ideally falls under 150cc petrol bikes category. The company has commenced online bookings at its website for now, with an introductory price of INR 1,24,999 (Ex-showroom, Pune). Deliveries are scheduled for company as per the company's plan.

Best suited for everyday city commutes, the Tork T6X boasts a decent riding range over 100 kms on a single charge. Powered by a 6 kW DC electric motor mated to an automatic gearbox, the electric drive train produces 8 bhp of peak power and 27 Nm of max torque, with a top speed of 85 kmph. The Lithium-ion batteries as source of power can be charged via a standard 15 Amp socket with a quick 80 per cent charging in just an hour. The company claims that the battery pack is good enough for 1000 charging cycles, which translates to almost 1 lakh kilometres of odo mileage.

The electric bike stands on a sturdy trellis body frame, and features telescopic forks up front and a monoshock suspension rear suspension setup, along with dual compound 17-inch tyres. Both the wheels get disc brakes with an integrated ABS. There is also utility space for a head gear and mobile phone to charging. Naturally, the bike is likely to weigh less than its petrol-powered counterparts.

Further, the 4.3-inch instrument cluster is all-digital with an in-built GPS system and ingenious cloud-based TIROS (Tork Intuitive Response System). The TIROS system enables the company to access essential drive train and ride data for better servicing and tuning. The bike also features a day-time LED strip up on its forehead.

All looks impressive on paper, we have to wait a little while to get this brawny e-bike on road. Tork Motorcycles seems to have struck the right cord by equipping the e-bike with essential techs - something that none of the electric motorcycles have done so far. The company is also planning to built charging infrastructure simultaneously in major cities across the country, which is partly imperative for the bike's appeal to buyers. Moreover, the T6X also gets subsidised from Union government's FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) initiative, thereby making the product competitive in pricing.
